SCD1, a critical regulated and conserved lipogenic enzyme, converts SFAs into MUFAs.42 SCD1 is recognized as an important enzyme for the structure of the endoplasmic reticulum, lipid and glucose metabolism and energy balance.43, 44 Regarding metabolic characteristics, inhibition of SCD1 protected against high fat diet‐induced obesity,45 diabetes46 and non‐alcoholic fatty liver disease.47 However, SCD1 inhibition strongly increased susceptibility to atherosclerosis. This evidence concerns the gene SCD and obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency.
