ALS-decreased genes most strongly decreased in high altitude subjects included stromal interaction molecule 1 (STIM1), zinc finger protein 652 (ZNF652) and RNA binding motif protein 14 (RBM14), and collectively such genes were associated with modulation by virus of host, anion transmembrane transport, and the MAPK cascade (Fig. 4i). The gene discussed is RBM14; the disease is amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.
