Importantly, given the high degree of conservation in the amino acid sequence and structure of the uL16 protein (Figure 7—figure supplement 1A,B), our cryo-EM data provide a mechanistic model that allows us to interpret the consequences of the recurrent uL16-R98S mutation found in paediatric T-ALL (De Keersmaecker et al., 2013).
