Importantly, increased immune infiltration was also observed in TRPC1 knockout mice suggesting that ER stress‐induced loss of salivary tissues could be a factor in autoimmune diseases such as SS that effects salivary glands and is characterized by increase in immune cells.35 However, further research is needed to clearly establish this link and to show if loss of calcium entry is a factor in modulating SS and to clarify the types of immune cells infiltrating in TRPC1 KO mice.
