NFAT mediates activation of two relevant transcription factors: the nuclear factor kappa B (NF-κB), involved in both pro-inflammatory cytokines (IL-1β, IL-18, IL-6, IL-8, and TNF-α) production (Liu et al., 2011)and apoptosis, and the hypoxia inducible factor 1α (HIF-1α) released during hypoxia, also activated during neoplasms allowing transcription of multiple genes involved in apoptosis resistance, inflammation, angiogenesis, tumor invasiveness and metastasis (Tafani et al., 2014). This evidence concerns the gene IL6 and neoplasm.
