IL1B and neoplasm: NFAT mediates activation of two relevant transcription factors: the nuclear factor kappa B (NF-κB), involved in both pro-inflammatory cytokines (IL-1β, IL-18, IL-6, IL-8, and TNF-α) production (Liu et al., 2011)and apoptosis, and the hypoxia inducible factor 1α (HIF-1α) released during hypoxia, also activated during neoplasms allowing transcription of multiple genes involved in apoptosis resistance, inflammation, angiogenesis, tumor invasiveness and metastasis (Tafani et al., 2014).
