Exosomes express glypicans on their cellular surface [16] and recently glypican 1+ (GPC1) exosomes have been identified for the detection of pancreatic cancer independent of staging [17] in multiple studies [18,19], emphasizing the great potential of exosome-based biomarkers for gastrointestinal cancers. This evidence concerns the gene GPC1 and familial pancreatic carcinoma.
