These results coincide with the previous results that showed yeast-induced apoptosis in breast cancer, MDA-MB-231 cells, was associated with an increase in Bax and a substantial decrease in expression of Bcl-2 resulting in alteration in the Bax:Bcl-2 ratio (40), suggesting that yeast induces apoptosis of MDA-MB-231 cells in vitro by a mechanism involving intracellular Ca2+ and Bax:Bcl-2. Here, BAX is linked to breast cancer.
