Several other promising positional candidate genes include C2CD2L (C2CD2 like), a gene whose function has been shown to regulate insulin secretion from beta cells [49, 50]; C1QTNF5 (C1q and TNF related 5), a gene suggested to have a role in the development of T2D [51]; and BACE1 (beta-secretase 1), a gene that has been shown to have a role in glucose homoeostasis in a mouse knockout model [52]. This evidence concerns the gene INS and type 2 diabetes mellitus.
