Whilst this study was conducted in the context of skin-based inflammation, LL-37 expression is found over-expressed in several diseases and tissues, including inflammatory bowel disease and rheumatoid arthritis, and has been measured up to ~6 μM in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid extracted from infants suffering systemic inflammation, and so should be considered when treating any inflamed area (33–35). This evidence concerns the gene CAMP and inflammatory bowel disease.
