The results showed that 25.5% of the pregnant women had some level of goiter, and the prevalence of overt hypothyroidism and of subclinical hypothyroidism was 1.27% and 14%, respectively (using a TSH cutoff of >4.2 mIU/L as the upper limit of normal and of >10 mIU/L for diagnosing overt hypothyroidism); only 0.76% showed positive anti-TPO titers, and the mean urinary iodine was 354 μg/L [36]. This evidence concerns the gene TPO and hypothyroidism.
