It was recently observed in patients with active multiple myeloma (MM), that Thalidomide treatment causes a significant reduction in the expression of angiogenic factors such as vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), fibroblast growth factor (FGF), hepatocyte growth factor (HGF), insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1), angiopoietins 1 (Ang-1) and 2 (Ang-2) (Vacca et al., 2005). This evidence concerns the gene HGF and plasma cell myeloma.
