Granuloma formation could be easily correlated with the up-regulation of the chemokines CXCL10, CXCL8 (also called IL8) and their receptors (CXCR3 and IL8R respectively) and other inflammatory cytokines and macrophage marker genes in the spleen (Figures 5B and 7), and the increase in transcription of genes related also to neutrophils in this tissue (Table 1).
