MiR-139 mainly functions as a tumor suppressor in HCC; it can suppress the proliferation, migration and invasion of HCC cells and induce HCC cell apoptosis via down-regulating a number of target genes, such as T-cell factor-4 (TCF-4) [11], Rho-kinase 2 (ROCK2) [12], zinc finger E-box binding homeobox 1(ZEB1) and ZEB2 [13]. The gene discussed is TCF4; the disease is hepatocellular carcinoma.
