One upregulated gene that encodes a protein that merits further study is Cj1349c. Interesting properties of the Cj1349c gene/protein included the following: (1) the gene has been implicated in contributing to infection upon screening a C. jejuni Tn mutant library in the gnotobiotic piglet model of campylobacteriosis (de Vries et al., 2017); and 2) the deduced amino acid sequence harbors putative fibronectin and fibrinogen binding protein domains. This evidence concerns the gene FN1 and campylobacteriosis.
