Another interesting finding is that Egr1 shows an almost identical expression pattern as Nr3c1. Considering that the Nr3c1 regulatory region contains the binding site for Egr1 (also known as NGFI-A; Weaver et al., 2004; Kundakovic et al., 2013b), and Egr1 is induced by stress (Xie et al., 2013; Rusconi et al., 2016), this provides a plausible link between coordinate up-regulation of these two genes and anxiety- and depression-related phenotypes in the early-life stress female group. This evidence concerns the gene EGR1 and major depressive disorder.
