LGALS3 and hydrops fetalis: A study comparing NT-proBNP and Gal-3 in diagnosing acute HF demonstrated that, while NT-proBNP afforded more diagnostic accuracy for HF (with an area under curve (AUC) of 0.94 for NT-proBNP, p < 0.0002, and an AUC of 0.72 for Gal-3, p < 0.0001), Gal-3 was the strongest predictor of 60-day mortality (OR 10.3, 95% CI 1.6–174.1, p < 0.01) or a combination of death/recurrent HF within 60 days (OR 14.3, 95% CI 5.6–45, p < 0.001) [51].
