CD4 and AIDS: Participants developing vascular events were older at cohort inclusion (median [interquartile range, IQR] 47.5 [41–55] years vs 36 [29–43] years, p<0.001), the transmission risk group was more frequently heterosexual and less frequently men who have sex with men (p<0.001), had been more frequently diagnosed with AIDS (<0.001), and had lower CD4 cell count nadir (p<0.001), lower CD4 cell count at cohort entry (p<0.001) and higher HIV RNA (p = 0.016) (Table 1).
