Inactivation of the Notch signalling pathway is an important factor in neuronal death in ALS and also plays a major role in decreased hippocampal neurogenic response in these patients, although the blockade of expression of Notch1 in oligodendrocyte precursor cells does not influence the evolution of the mutant SOD1hG93A mice (Eykens et al., 2018). The gene discussed is NOTCH1; the disease is amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.
