SQSTM1 and cancer: p62 (also named EBIAP, ZIP3, SQSTM1/Sequestosome-1), a human homolog of mouse ZIPs (Zeta PKC-interacting proteins), is well known as a selective autophagy receptor and a ubiquitn sensor, which controls myraid cellular processes, including redox homeostasis, DNA damage response (DDR), cancer development, aging, inflammation and immunity, osteoclastogenesis, and obesity, with or without the involvement of autophagy [1–3].
