Analogously, cenicriviroc, an antagonist of the C-C motif chemokine receptor 2/5 (CCR2 and CCR5) that plays a role in macrophage recruitment in the liver, has been tested in a randomized phase 2b study, showing anti-inflammatory and anti-fibrotic effects in NASH patients with fibrosis [283,284]; it is now being tested in a phase 3 clinical trial (AURORA study ClinicalTrials.gov: NCT03028740). This evidence concerns the gene CCR2 and metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis.
