APP and Alzheimer disease: Several studies showed a correlation between AD and platelet abnormalities, including abnormal membrane fluidity, increased β-secretase activity, and altered APP metabolism [13]; α-degranulation, P-selectin surface expression, and integrin αIIbβ3 activation [14]; platelet adhesion [15, 16]; formation of leukocyte-platelet complexes [12]; coagulation abnormalities [17–19]; and platelet adhesion and accumulation at vascular β amyloid deposition sites, where they were shown to modulate β amyloid complexation into aggregates [20].
