VDR and ovarian cancer: Although we were unable to confirm the association between previously identified VDR variants and risk of EOC, a recent case‐control study of women of European ancestry (10,065 cases, 21,654 controls) showed that SNPs associated with decreased circulating 25‐hydroxyvitamin D were associated with ovarian cancer and HGSOC64 while another study showed that AA women exposed to increased sunlight had a decreased risk for ovarian cancer.8 These observations suggest that other mechanisms affecting vitamin D hormone activity independent of the VDR may be important in ovarian cancer etiology.
