In addition to their mobilization, more HSPCs in the bone marrow incorporated the DNA synthesis marker 5-bromo-2′-deoxyuridine (BrdU) in Ldlr−/− mice on an HFHC diet as compared to in Ldlr−/− mice on a normal diet, indicating that hypercholesterolemia promoted HSPC proliferation. This evidence concerns the gene LDLR and familial hypercholesterolemia.
