LOXL2 is capable of a post-transcriptional modification of type 1 collagen (the main collagen in hepatic fibrosis) and elastin, by oxidation of peptidyl lysine and hydroxylysine residue collagen, transforming it to allysine, which is responsible for the formation of crosslinks that stabilize collagen and elastin in the extracellular matrix. Here, ELN is linked to Hepatic fibrosis.
