In 429 patients with schizophrenia or schizoaffective disorder, the catechol-O-methyltransferase (COMT) genotype moderated the effects of childhood trauma on cognition and symptoms in methionine (met) carriers with a history of childhood physical abuse and more severe positive symptoms; Met carriers with a history of emotional neglect had more severe negative symptoms (Green et al., 2014).
