In subjects with normal fasting glucose levels, serum L-carnitine was found to be positively correlated with serum TG level, serum insulin level, IR in males and with obesity measurements, serum TC level, serum glucose levels, serum insulin levels, and IR in females, while in subjects with hyperglycemia there was only positive correlation between serum L-carnitine and TG levels in males. The gene discussed is INS; the disease is obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency.
