In conclusion, in general Newfoundland population, we provide solid evidence for the first time that serum L-carnitine level is significantly associated with an unfavorable MS profile, mainly serum TG levels, serum insulin level, IR in male subjects with normal serum glucose level and obesity, serum TC level, serum glucose level, serum insulin levels, and IR in females with normal serum glucose level. This evidence concerns the gene INS and obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency.
