In cardiomyocytes, pathological cardiac hypertrophy could be modeled through Ang II stimulation.11, 16, 23 Exposure to Ang II (100 nmol/L) increased cell surface area and the expression of established hypertrophic genes, for example, ANP and BNP, whereas pretreatment with rutaecarpine (10 μmol/L) for 60 minutes significantly inhibited Ang II‐induced up‐regulation of the cell surface area and the mRNA levels of ANP and BNP in primary cardiomyocytes (Figure 3). Here, AGT is linked to cardiac hypertrophy.
