Inflammasomes that include canonical and noncanonical types can be activated in the context of infection, tissue injury, or metabolic imbalances.81 Canonical CASP1-dependent inflammasomes are divided into two subtypes, Nod-like receptors (NLR, e.g., NLR family pyrin domain-containing 1 [NLRP1], NLRP2, NLRP3, NLRP6, NLRP7, NLR family CARD domain-containing 4 [NLRC4]) and non-NLR (e.g., absent in melanoma 2 [AIM2]).
