When CRP was added as a covariate together with Lp-PLA2 (activity or mass), besides age at study entry, sex, BMI, current smoking, diabetes mellitus, hypertension, in the extended multi-variable analysis, Lp-PLA2 activity (HR 1.33; 95% CI 1.17–1.52; p < 0.001), Lp-PLA2 mass (HR 1.16; 95% CI 1.01–1.32; p = 0.038) and CRP (HR 1.36; 95% CI 1.18–1.58; p < 0.001) remained associated with incident PAD. This evidence concerns the gene CRP and diabetes mellitus.
