In order to evaluate whether the ongoing circulation of H18N11 in presence of antivirally active bMx1 resulted in partial MxA escape, we generated a bat chimeric virus PR8-H18N11, expressing the A/Puerto Rico/8/1934 (PR8) surface glycoproteins plus the six internal gene segments of H18N11 and performed infection studies in MxA-expressing cells and mice, carrying the human MX1 gene locus as a transgene [12].
