Hyperinsulinemia increases the secretion of androgens with different effects on ovary, adrenal, pituitary, LH receptor, sex hormone-binding globulin (SHBG) protein, etc. Another reason for hyperandrogenism is the exposure to androgens during fetal development, which can result in PCOS phenotypes in adulthood (4).
