In 2012, the first RET fusion in lung cancer, KIF5B-RET, was reported independently by 4 groups from Korea (Ju et al., 2012), Japan (2 groups) (Kohno et al., 2012; Takeuchi et al., 2012), and the United States (Lipson et al., 2012). The gene discussed is KIF5B; the disease is lung carcinoma.
