ACHE and post-traumatic stress disorder: The fact that acetylcholinesterase inhibitors, which lead to elevated ACh levels, can in some cases lead to psychopathologies reminiscent of PTSD (Rosenstock et al., 1991; McLay and Ho, 2007) supports the notion that elevated cholinergic tone during an acute, traumatic stressor plays a role in the sensitized responding seen in human post-traumatic stress.
