Regarding the mechanisms underlying the inflammatory process and the immune response, the results of this study appear to support the notion that T. gondii-induced ileitis drives a predominant Th1 and Th17 response, with high concentrations of IFN-gamma, TNF-alpha, IL-17, and even IL-1 beta in the explants from the ileal samples. Here, IL1B is linked to Crohn ileitis.
