Since human studies revealed a potential role of TRPA1 and TRPV1 receptors in the pathogenesis of IBD, but only expression changes could be detected in the human samples, preclinical tests are essential to have a better insight into the pathogenesis of IBD, investigate functional alterations including the role of these ion channels, as well as perform pharmacological interventions. This evidence concerns the gene TRPA1 and irritable bowel syndrome.
