These data are in agreement with Shain et al. [2], who also identified TERT promoter mutations in intermediate lesions and melanomas in situ, in addition to invasive and metastatic melanomas, thus confirming that TERT mutations are selected in an early stage of the neoplastic progression and maintained during the entire metastatic process [2], in variance with other mutations like BRAF which can show a discordance between primary and metastatic tumours in 11% of cases [4,24]. This evidence concerns the gene TERT and metastatic neoplasm.
