Among genetic variables, single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) of CFH, ARMS2, IL-8, TIMP3, SLC16A8, RAD51B, VEGFA, and COL8A1 are significantly associated with a higher risk of AMD in the Italian cohort, accounting for the 23% of disease susceptibility, in contrast to the 46–71% observed across global populations [8,12]. The gene discussed is ARMS2; the disease is age-related macular degeneration.
