Prolonged treatment of Alzheimer disease patients with orally administrated resveratrol (500 mg once daily with dose escalation until a final dose of 1000 mg twice daily) caused a decrease in matrix metalloproteinase 9 (MMP-9) levels, as well as improved responsiveness of microglia/macrophages in the cerebrospinal fluid [128]. Here, MMP9 is linked to early-onset autosomal dominant Alzheimer disease.
