Rats on HFD with chronic inflammation developed severe renal degeneration and glomerular damage, indicating that the aggravation of obesity may itself exacerbate existing kidney damage, perhaps due to the overexpression of CD36, TNFα, IL-6, and monocyte chemotactic protein-1 (MCP-1) during inflammation, which results in the thickening of the glomerular basement membrane, extracellular matrix, glomerulosclerosis [34]. This evidence concerns the gene CCL2 and obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency.
