Transition of hepatic stellate cells (HSCs) from a quiescent to an activated state is a sign of the onset of liver fibrosis, and this process is controlled by E-type cyclins (CcnE1, CcnE2) and their associated cyclin-dependent kinase 2 (Cdk2) (Nevzorova et al., 2012; Ohtsubo et al., 1995). This evidence concerns the gene CCNE1 and Hepatic fibrosis.
