A different set of more severe human skin disorders, but with molecular defects that resemble our ninein-knockout, have been reported from patients with mutations in the genes encoding desmoglein 1 or desmoplakin, leading to desmosomal defects and to dermatitis (Samuelov et al, 2013; Has et al, 2015; McAleer et al, 2015; Cheng et al, 2016; Schlipf et al, 2016). This evidence concerns the gene NIN and dermatitis.
