Uribarri et al. [38] identified, by using two-dimensional gel electrophoresis and subsequent protein identification by mass spectrometry (MS), a panel of 5 proteins (APOA1: apolipoprotein A-1, CO4A: complement factor 4, CRP: C-reactive protein, GSTP1: glutathione s-transferase pi 1, SAMP: serum amyloid p-component) that could accurately diagnose lung cancer on BAL, two of which interestingly could differentiate NSCLC and SCLC. The gene discussed is CRP; the disease is lung carcinoma.
