Recent randomized clinical trials have demonstrated that HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors improve short-term [10] and long-term functional outcomes of ischemic stroke patients [11, 53], although statins have been proven to be neuroprotective in cerebral ischemia in vivo [8, 54, 55] and in vitro [56, 57]. This evidence concerns the gene HMGCR and Cerebral ischemia.
