In gene therapy research involving horses, examples of transgene therapy include administering bone morphogenetic protein 2 (BMP2) and BMP6 to a model fracture site using an adenoviral vector [9] and fibroblast growth factor 2 and vascular endothelial growth factor 164 to sites of tendinitis using a plasmid vector [10] in order to promote lesion healing.
