ALB and infection: The following six clinical variables were selected as independent risk factors for infection-related death by multivariate analysis with backward stepwise elimination: age (HR, 1.06; 95% CI, 1.03–1.09), weekly renal Kt/V (HR, 2.66; 95% CI, 1.29–5.47), serum albumin (HR, 1.89; 95% CI, 1.08–3.31), total cholesterol (HR, 1.01; 95% CI, 1.00–1.02), serum Cr (HR, 1.17; 95% CI, 1.02–1.33), and male sex (HR, 1.93; 95% CI, 1.00–3.73) (Table 5).
