While LPS tolerance affected only TNF-α and IL-6 production in wild-type macrophages, LPS tolerance also impaired other pathogen control mechanisms (phagocytosis and microbicidal activity) in FcGRIIb−/− cells as a mechanism possibly responsible for the significant LPS exhaustion in lupus. The gene discussed is FCGR2B; the disease is systemic lupus erythematosus.
