The level of eNOS activity may be influenced by the expression of regulatory proteins either positively (e.g., Akt, CaM) or negatively (e.g., caveolin-1) (Fleming, 2010), however, in this study the expression of these proteins was not affected by diabetes or tocomin treatment nor was there any effect on Akt phosphorylation. The gene discussed is CALM1; the disease is diabetes mellitus.
