The level of eNOS activity may be influenced by the expression of regulatory proteins either positively (e.g., Akt, CaM) or negatively (e.g., caveolin-1) (Fleming, 2010), however, in this study the expression of these proteins was not affected by diabetes or tocomin treatment nor was there any effect on Akt phosphorylation. This evidence concerns the gene AKT1 and diabetes mellitus.
