In this cohort of patients with T1D we have previously found that depression was associated with anxiety [22], inadequate glycaemic control [23], high midnight cortisol secretion [22, 24], and with galectin-3 [25], an inflammatory biomarker which both predicts heart failure and contributes to cardiac dysfunction [26, 27]. The gene discussed is LGALS3; the disease is type 1 diabetes mellitus.
