Type 1 diabetes has been identified with autoimmune destruction of pancreatic beta cells (insulin secreting cells) and accounts for about 5% of all diabetic people, while type 2 diabetes is a predominant disorder characterized by insulin resistance or a relative decline in insulin production, and accounts for about 90% of all types of diabetes mellitus (Meshkani, Taghikhani, Al‐Kateb et al., 2007). The gene discussed is INS; the disease is type 1 diabetes mellitus.
