NR3C2 and hepatocellular carcinoma: If the peripheral findings related to HCC reflect persistent changes in circulating central cortisol, speculatively, the observed association between HCC and diminished differentiation in amygdala reactivity may be influenced by long‐term compensatory changes in central GR and/or MR signaling pathways, such as upregulated receptor expression and binding affinity or changes at the signaling route downstream of the receptor.
